Pipeline Accelerator Tip #39: Answer 5 Critical Questions Before Design
Want to stop delays and end scope creep?
Start by asking the right questions — before design even begins.
Every new product depends on a few key decisions across five major areas of feasibility and requirements:
-
Commercial: Who is the customer, what problem are you solving, and how will they define success?
-
Technical: Do you have the technology needed, or will you need to develop, license, or acquire it?
-
Manufacturing: Can you make it reliably, at scale, and at target cost — with current processes and suppliers?
-
Intellectual Property: Are you free to operate? Do you have protection for your idea, or risk infringing on others?
-
Regulatory: What rules or standards could affect how your product is designed, sold, or used?
Before development kicks off, identify the critical questions in each area and plan the work to answer them early.
It’s much cheaper — and faster — to test feasibility up front than to redesign later. When you know your answers before design begins, you avoid rework, reduce risk, and keep your project moving forward.
