Tip #111 – Pay Attention to Tasks Delaying Your Critical Chain

Pipeline Accelerator Insight #111: Pay Attention to Tasks Delaying Your New Product Project’s Critical Chain

Critical Chain in New Products

The critical chain is the sequence of project tasks that prevents your new products from finishing earlier.

While every task must be completed before your new product can launch, you need to pay attention to your critical chain tasks.

Not because they are more important than feeding chain tasks that parallel the CC, but because they represent your point of maximum leverage – the longest chain given task dependencies and resource constraints. Anything you can do to shorten the CC or take work off the CC can get you to market sooner.

But don’t be fooled into thinking feeding chain tasks aren’t important too. If FC tasks are delayed long enough, the feeding chain can actually prevent you from advancing the CC.

So make sure your Critical Chain tools can recognize the difference.
